China Industrial Energy Efficiency Mission Seminar
ECEE member Alliance to Save Energy will hold educational-business seminars on industrial energy efficiency in Changchun, Jilin Province, April 13 – 14, and Beijing, April 17 – 18. Energy efficiency companies interested in participating as educational speakers should contact ECEE.

New Century * New Opportunities ESCO Conference
ECEE member National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO) will hold its Mid-Year Conference May 17-19 in Houston, Texas. The Conference will feature an International Roundtable which is scheduled for the afternoon of May 17. It will include sessions on financing international ESCO projects; the use of carbon credits and emissions trading as an incentive for energy efficiency; and assessments of market opportunities in Mexico, Brazil, Korea, India and China, featuring speakers from the regions.

EcoLinks Partner Search
The following organizations have project concepts already screened for a Challenge Grant and are looking for US partners. Interested companies should contact ECEE as soon as possible.

  • Darda Municipality, comprised of 4 villages in Croatia, is looking for ways to reduce energy consumption in residential and business spaces, such as through the use of passive solar energy and new building materials. Darda would like to find a partner that has experience using natural energy sources to heat and cool residential buildings.
  • Kazakhskii NII Energetiki, in Kazakhstan, provides consulting services in electrical engineering, energy efficiency, and development of alternative energy sources. They are looking for a US partner, with specialty in development of alternative energy sources and energy efficiency, to work with them on a project focusing on modification of their boiler house using solar energy.
  • Kyiv Confectionery Factory, in Ukraine, exports and sells locally a wide range of confectionary products. They are looking for a US partner to work with them and their Ukrainian partner to modernize the boiler house to reduce emissions and save energy.
  • Ukraine State-owned Izumrud specializes in manufacturing jewelry and refining precious stones. They are looking for a US partner to work with them to retrofit a heating system to reduce emissions and energy consumption.
  • Farmak, a pharmaceutical and chemical company in Ukraine, is looking for a US partner to work with them and their Ukrainian partner to conduct a comprehensive energy audit and develop recommendations for an energy saving program.
  • Teplovye Seti, a Russian utility, is seeking a US partner to work with them to carry out a power consumption audit of the utility’s steam boilers and identify ways to use modern technology to reduce emissions.

Carbon Offset Project Fund
Oregon Climate Trust (OCT) has $960,000 available for carbon offset project contracts. OCT is seeking projects that 1) avoid, sequester, or displace carbon dioxide emissions, 2) will be implemented in the future, 3) will not occur in the absence of offset project funding, and 4) can quantify the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Project summary information, limited to six pages of text, is due by April 28.

Russia Lighting
Ulyanovsk Instruments Manufacturing Design Bureau is looking to purchase short-arc gas-discharge lamps of high (HP) or ultra-high pressure (UHP) for projection units. The company is interested in establishing long-term cooperation with a potential supplier.

Asian Development Bank and the US and Foreign Commercial Service Business Opportunities Seminar April 4 – 19, 2000
The Asian Development Bank, in Collaboration with the US and Foreign Commercial Service, will conduct business opportunities seminars in four cities in the US. The seminars will be held in San Francisco, CA April 4 – 5; Washington, DC April 10 – 11; Kansas City, MO April 13 – 14; and Seattle, WA April 18 –19. The seminars will focus on hot to obtain information on procurement opportunities from ADB, how to register and prepare letters of interest, how to prepare bid proposals and, if selected, negotiate contracts.

International Energy Project Financing Conference 2000
The California Energy Commission is sponsoring a conference on May 8, 2000 in Long Beach, CA to bring together financing firms and power/energy developers, government financial institutions and other key decision-makers to share information on energy project financing in international markets. The conference will feature presentations on successful financing case studies and highlight speakers representing equity fund investors, multilateral development banks and commercial banks. The focus will be on financing for power generation, cogeneration, energy efficiency and other energy projects requiring less than $100 million in capital investment.

Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Ministers Conference
The APEC Energy Ministers Conference will be held May 10 – 12 in San Diego, CA and will focus on strategies to implement existing policy commitments and to enhance investment in clean and sustainable energy development, on opportunities for regional energy market integration, and on continued transition to a market-oriented business climate. The region's energy ministers, and representatives of the private sector, multilateral institutions and nongovernment organizations will work together to create a vision for the 21st Century that will support clean and sustainable energy and economic development.

Newsletter on Hybrid Remote Area Power Systems
ECEE member Solar Energy Research and Education Foundation is offering a free newsletter on the Hybrid (Diesel, PV Battery) Remote Area Power Systems (RAPS) project located in Iquitos, Peru in the Amazon Basin. The newsletter includes description of the specific progress to date and the advanced battery technology which distinguishes these systems from many former RAPS systems.
