Relationship Building and Strategic Partnering to Create Deals

ECEE has led over 70 U.S. energy efficiency companies to Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, the Philippines and Thailand for focused meetings and workshops with over 2000 pre-screened foreign buyers, leveraging over $1,000,000 of in-kind company contributions and resulting in $8 million in completed projects to date, with another $12 million in the pipeline. The following are just a few of the success stories:

• At least eight distribution networks have been established and many companies have hired in-country product representatives in Mexico.

• One US company completed a project for energy efficiency audits of refrigeration systems in Portugal and expects significant additional work.

• A US Energy Services Company (ESCO) closed a multi-million dollar deal for an audit and retrofit of Metro infrastructure in Santiago, Chile.

• 2 ESCOs have formed joint ventures, one in Korea and one in Japan.

• Several companies have already closed direct sales in China and expect many more in the near future.

ECEE has also hosted more than 300 representatives from 43 countries to meet with US companies and government officials.

• ECEE has disseminated numerous concrete, immediate project opportunity leads to over 2000 U.S. companies in the energy efficiency community.

• ECEE has produced specific market assessments of energy efficiency needs in: Brazil, Chile, India, Indonesia, Hungary, Mexico, the Philippines, Poland, and Romania.

• ECEE has published "Federal Financing and Assistance Resources for Energy Efficiency Exports" and "Developing and Financing Energy Efficiency Projects and Ventures in Emerging Markets."

• ECEE sponsored two International Financing Roundtables, each attended by over 100 representatives from ESCOs, equipment vendors, commercial banks, multilateral development banks, and government agencies (domestic and foreign).

• ECEE has sponsored an ExIm Bank representative on several focused site visits, providing on-the-spot financing counseling and options for both buyers and sellers.

• ECEE regularly holds financing briefings to help companies "Meet the Money," where financiers explain financing options for all stages of projects.

• ECEE has supported state-level peer-exchanges with Brazil, China, the Dominican Republic, Micronesia, Poland and the Philippines to help develop federal energy efficiency regulations and programs.

• ECEE has published the report "Opportunities for International Policy and Program Development."

• ECEE has published the report "Study on the Impact of Restructuring on International Energy Efficiency Markets."

• ECEE has published the report "Potential for $mart Growth Services and Technology Transfer in Emerging Markets: Exploring Ideas for New Businesses in Sustainable Transport and Urban Development."
